To create a route in Capra you'll need a GPX file. Most modern outdoor recreation apps like Strava, Mapmyrun, AllTrails etc will record your activity in multiple file formats, one of which is GPS data which can be exported as a GPX file.
Beware "raw" GPX files
When your activity is recorded by these apps you will notice that the line commonly bounces all over the place and does not follow the actual path you took very accurately. There are a bunch of reasons for this bouncing around that we cover in a blog post but the important thing for your route on Capra is that you may well want to re-plot the route for accuracy and to make it look much more professional in the Capra app.
You can draw routes and download GPX files in many tools on the internet, including the sporting app platforms who have Route Builders. One tool we recommend and often use ourselves is PlotaRoute. This is because it's easy to use and you have a wide range of tools to help you modify routes you create, see the screenshot below.
A key thing to look out for in route builders is that you have the ability to select a map detail layer that includes OpenstreetMap (OSM) trail data. This makes it easier to identify and plot trails. Major apps like AllTrails, Strava, Gaia use OSM data often through the map tech company Mapbox.
In Plotaroute you can select different map types to choose from including Trail data
Here are some of the tools they provide to help you modify your route info
Once you have created your route you can download the GPX file for use in Capra
