When GPX files are loaded into the system they can display a spiky elevation profile that over exaggerates the route steepness. This profile can be smoothed to display a more realistic view. For example:

Before

After

To go to the tool we use at Capra click the button below after reading the instructions.

When you open the tool select and load up your GPX file. It will load and display the elevation profile with a default Smooth Value of 5.

To smooth out the profile increase the 'Smooth Values' up from the default 5 and press the Smooth Values button to see the difference. Increase it slowly to test out what works best for your profile, there's no best value to choose, it's at your discretion.

The new elevation profile will be displayed in green. Once you're happy with the smoother version scroll down to menu item 6, change the default file name as you want and then press the Download GPX button for your new file to upload to Capra. Easy!
