Before we dig into the detail of how to add pins, the most important thing to understand is πŸ‘‡

A single pin (e.g. a junction) can be "connected" to multiple routes and collections.

  • This removes the need to duplicate the pin when new collections or routes are added

  • The pin can be connected or disconnected from a route or collection at any time.

  • Pins created by anyone in your account will automatically show up on your admin map so you can also edit and connect them to your maps.

Pins are the information points you can drop onto the map. To avoid unnecessary duplication of effort a single pin can created once but then be 'connected' to multiple routes and collections. The pin can also be 'disconnected' from any route and collection so it will not be shown to a user.

  1. To add a pin click on the point on the map you want to place the pin. You can always 'drag' the pin to a more accurate location later if needed. You'll see the default yellow question mark pin which means you need to click the blue 'Choose Pin' button.

  2. 'Choose Pin' opens a window with all the pin options to choose from and there are many. Familiarise yourself with the options and use the search bar to type in what you are looking for, and add to favourites to speed up the process.

  3. Pin info editing. When your pin is first added it shows the default information such as this screenshot below. You should edit the information in here as follows.

  4. How to edit

    1. Default Name: change this to the specific pin title you need.

    2. Description: add helpful description info about the pin

    3. Get Directions is a button that can be shown in the app on the pin but this is not always useful. Use 'Hide Directions' button if standard map navigation tools such as Google Maps are not relevant or should not be used to get to this place. For example, a marshall point in a more remote location where Google Maps instructions for that marhsall would send them the wrong way.

    4. More Info. Use this URL field to link to external websites for more information. A good example of this is if the event has sponsor partner websites that are relevant for app users. Use the full https:// link in this field.

    5. Example edited pin info

  5. Click Save for the pin to display on your map.

  6. Screenshot below is how this pin looks in the app.

Moving a pin to a new spot on the map enable pin drag

To move a pin tick 'Enable Pin Drag' ; click on the pin and drag it across the map to the new spot. The map will automatically show a 'Pin Saved' message after a couple of seconds. Untick this option once you're done.

Pin Connecting

  1. When you add a pin it will automatically be "connected" to the route map you used to create the pin. This means the pin will show on that route map.

  2. You can disconnect a pin from a route to stop is display on the route map, tap the black 'Connect pin to the route' button and then click 'Disconnect from this route'.

This does't delete the pin from the system, it simply hides it from maps where you've disconnected it. This is useful if the pin isn't relevant currently but may be needed in future or on other routes or collections.

Pins that are added on a route will also show up on the map automatically when you add a new route or collection in that area of the map.
