The app will open on the Library screen which is home to Collections.
There are 6 main screens in the Capra app
Library - the Library will automatically display collections within 125km of your location. Collections are bundles of trails and map information.
Bookmarks - the easy way to access information you bookmark across the app.
Explore - this map is empty of collection or trail specific information and is used to head out and explore without needing to follow a specific trail map. It's a great way to quickly answer "Where am I?"
Search - search for event names, places, regions and trail names.
Inbox - check for updates and promos in here. These can be location specific e.g. welcome messages when you enter a certain area.
Account - where you can access your profile, reviews, settings and more.
Collections can be launched directly by scanning a QR code or clicking a Capra smartlink.
When you tap 'View Map Details' you'll be asked to register and create an account. It's free to do this.
Your location on the map screens will be shown by a blue arrow. You can recenter the map on your location by tapping the arrow in the bottom right hand corner of the maps (see screenshot below). Tap this arrow again to switch between the map swivelling around your position or the arrow swivelling on a static map... have a play with this to see the difference.
The number shown over the map icon (example above is 11) shows you how many Collections are available in your library for your location.
You can tap on map pins to open up more detail, bookmark the pin, click through to more information or open up your driving directions map.
The app does not record your activity, so there is nothing to start or stop.
The app works very well with very limited or zero mobile reception.
To see the intended route direction, swipe your finger along the elevation profile
The 3 icons above the elevation profile (see below) are:
"Life ring" - tap this to show your coordinates in case of an emergency
"Route refresh" - this refreshes any map info that has been updated by the creator. It is especially useful for race events with course changes you need to be aware of.
Me (arrow) - re-centres the map on your position and can be toggled between map swivelling around you or the blue arrow moving in the direction you face.
Routes have 4 levels of difficulty, much like a ski run grading or mountain bike track. Green is easiest, Black is hardest in terms of trail difficulty and elevation gain.
You will see information pins on the maps. These can be opened by tapping on them. On many trails there will be additional information such as key junctions, view points, hazards and also pins to help you have a great day out such as where to grab that post trail refreshment.
Getting to the start. Tap on a parking pin, or the start or finish pin to open the Directions button. This button will load Google or Apple maps depending on your default options.
The life ring is for emergency situations or to let other people know your position. This shows your lat/long position. Note: to be able to send a text or make a call you will need at least a minimal amount of mobile coverage. If heading deep into back-country or on extended trips we recommend taking additional safety tools such as beacons.
